Women in the Church at Trinity Presbyterian Church

Purpose

Women in the Church (WIC) is the organized women’s ministry of Trinity Presbyterian Church. All women who attend Trinity are considered a part of WIC. All WIC ministry is under direct guidance of the Elders of TPC.

The purpose of WIC is that every woman know Christ personally and be committed to extending His Kingdom in her life, home, church, community and throughout the world.

Goals

The WIC purpose is accomplished through the following goals:

  • To provide opportunities for women to know Christ
  • To know and love one another as sisters in Christ
  • To provide opportunities for women to express spiritual gifts through leadership and service
  • To be committed to encouraging one another through regular fellowship
  • To enrich the church ministry by serving others through committees, programs, Bible studies, and acts of mercy

History

Not only is WIC an integral part of the overall ministry at Trinity, but it is part of the nation-wide PCA WIC ministry established in 1973. In 2004, the Trinity Session encouraged and approved the women’s ministry to become WIC and adopt the national purpose. Our affiliation with WIC nation-wide affords us opportunities for fellowship, ministry, and instruction beyond the walls of our own church.

Symbol

WIC uses the symbol of an old-fashioned kerosene lamp with a wick. This symbol emphasizes the importance of spiritual life and growth to the women and encourages them to obey Christ’s command to shine as lights in a dark world. In order for the kerosene lamp to give light, it must be filled with oil. The wick must rest continually in the oil and must be trimmed regularly to burn effectively. The lamp chimney must be kept clean and clear. Similarly, the believer’s life must be filled with the oil of the Holy Spirit. As the wick rests in the oil and is fully saturated with it, so must the WIC rest in Christ and draw life and spiritual strength from His Holy Spirit. The knob on the side of the lamp represents the Word of God, by which the lives of believers must be regulated in obedience to His revealed will.

Theme Verse

“For Zion’s sake I will not rest and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep silent, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness and the salvation as a lamp that burns.” Isaiah 62:1

WIC Activities

Every woman in the local church is considered part of WIC and is welcome to participate in Bible studies, attend fellowship events, and serve on committees.

Bible Studies

WIC Bible studies are under the authority of the Session. Women’s Bible studies aim:

  • To strengthen each woman’s relationship with Christ,
  • To spur women on to grow in the knowledge of God’s Word,
  • To encourage and foster deeper relationships with one another.

WIC Fellowship Events

Regular events are planned by WIC for the fellowship and spiritual nurture of the Trinity women.
