Our Motto: "speaking the truth in love"
This statement Is taken from Ephesians 4:15. It conveys a dual commitment: 1) to
faithfully stand for biblical truth; 2) to visibly demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ.
First, we desire to remain true to the message of God’s Word ("speaking the truth in love").
This means we unapologetically believe that the Bible is the Word of God--wholly inspired and
inerrant. We honor it as our only infallible rule for faith and living. We have no desire to
"pick and choose" from the Bible merely that which pleases our fancy. Rather our ambition is
to proclaim "the whole counsel of God" (Acts 20:27).
As a result, we are committed to the fundamentals of biblical faith, which we share with
other evangelical, Bible-believing churches. We also believe that the highest expression of
Scriptural doctrine is found in the historic Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms.
The Bible provides us with our "marching orders"--our reason for being. This is well
summarized in what is known as the Great Commission: "Go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching
them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20).
In light of the Great Commission, we earnestly desire that people come to know Jesus Christ
as their Lord and Savior ("I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father
except through me"--John 14:6). Once people come to Christ, we are to train, build, and
equip them so they become more Christlike from day to day and become more effective in
service in his kingdom.
While holding firmly to the truth of God’s Word, we also aim to nurture a climate of
dynamic love. This is our second over-all commitment ("speaking the truth in love"). Truth
and love must always be intimately related. Indeed, it is a climate of love that gives credibility
to God’s truth before a watching world. Christ said, "As I have loved you, so you must love one
another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John
13:34-35).
True biblical love is not merely sentimental; it is grounded in action--practical deeds of
kindness and service (I John 3:16). While such love with the family of God, the
church, it does not end there (Galatians 3:10). This means we strive to make ourselves
relevant to this generation without compromise of biblical truth (1 Corinthians 9:19-23).
